Usage

Dissolve the powder in the entire 1,5 ml sodium bicarbonate and shake until a clear solution is obtained. Then add ml sodium chloride to the vial

• 7,5 ml of 0.9% sodium chloride to obtain 9 ml of 10 mg / ml artesunate solution, for IV injection
• 3 ml of 0.9% sodium to obtain 4,5 ml of artesunate solution of 20 mg / ml, for IM injection

Indications

Used for acute attack and cerebral type of malaria.

Posology

Injectable artesunate is administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) for the treatment of severe malaria caused by P. falciparum.

The WHO strongly recommends the use of IV or IM artesunate in adults and children suffering from severe malaria (including infants, pregnant women in all trimesters, and lactating women) for at least 24 hours and until the patient can tolerate a full course of oral ACT therapy.

START 90 is for patients with body weights of: 26-38 kg

Dosing Regimen

• 1st Dose: on admission (0 Hours)
• 2nd Dose: 12 hours later
• 3rd Dose: 24 hours after first dose
