Usage
Dissolve the powder in the entire 5% sodium bicarbonate and shake until a clear solution is obtained. Then add 0.9% sodium chloride to the vial
with a 1 ml ampoule of 5% sodium bicarbonate and a 5 ml ampoule of 0.9% sodium chloride, for slow IV injection (3 to 5 minutes) or slow IM. NU NCA MANAGE Perfusion IV .

Indications
Used for acute attack and cerebral type of malaria.
Posology
Injectable artesunate is administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) for the treatment of severe malaria caused by P. falciparum.
The WHO strongly recommends the use of IV or IM artesunate in adults and children suffering from severe malaria (including infants, pregnant women in all trimesters, and lactating women) for at least 24 hours and until the patient can tolerate a full course of oral ACT therapy.

When using artesunate as an IM injection, give adults and children a single intramuscular dose of artesunate (as a pre-referral) and refer to an appropriate facility for further care.
